Never Underestimate the Heat of the desert

The first major rule when travelling to a desert is to give the heat the respect it requires. Carry all the requirements needed like water, sunscreen and wear proper clothing. Temperatures in the desert get as hot as 50 degrees Celsius. This blistering heat can get the best of you if you do not go prepared or underestimate it. In short, you do not know what to expect and how high the temperatures will go. So try not to talk too much, keep hydrated and follow all instructions given.

Never Leave the Vehicle

If it so happens your vehicle has broken down and you are left stranded. The best thing to do is to stay put in your vehicle to enable the search parties to find you easier and faster. More importantly, if you do not know where you are stop trying to move around as you might risk getting lost in the scorching desert. Staying in the car protects you from the harsh heat and wind.

Save Up Your Water

It is of great importance that you do not drink all of your water at once. It is more efficient to take small sips at a time to help you maintain your hydration and avoid finishing your water fast. Try not to waste water on unnecessary things, wash your fruits before you embark on your trip to the desert.

Control Your Hunger

Just like how need to save up your water, is how you need to save up your food. Be sure to eat your food in small portions just enough to keep you energized. You don’t want to run out of food in a desert as this risks more dehydration and it is also advised not to eat too much as this sucks up your energy and requires you to drink even more water.
